010 Since the only way a new political party can accomplish real change in this country is for that party to commandeer the resources of the Republican party, it is important to know just what Republicans talk about and how they don't think

GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - April 22, 2011

GOPUSA ILLINOIS-- Roskam speaks at outstanding fundraiser for Lauzen - Dave Diersenhttp://www.gopillinois.com
Congressman Peter Roskam spoke at an outstanding fundraiser luncheon for Senator Chris Lauzen Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Maggiano's Little Italy Restaurant in Naperville.  During his outstanding speech, which received a standing ovation, Roskam spoke very highly of Lauzen and brought attendees up to date on what is happening in Washinton DC.  Attendees had outstanding opportunities to ask Roskam questions.  The 150 attendees included Paul Caprio, Jack Cunningham, Demetra DeMonte, Kirk Dillard, Jim Economos, Randy Hultgren, Rich Johns, Bill Keck, Tom Morrison, Rachel Ossyra, David Rickert, Melisa Taylor, Sandy Wegman, and Denny Wiggins.  Attendees took home an outstanding 16-page color document titled: "If I ran my business like you run the government. . .I'd be bankrupt!"  Event sponsors included Bill Brady, Paul Caprio, Kirk Dillard, Irwin Essenfeld, Peter Fitzgerald, Ron Gidwitz, Richard Hawks, and Tom Roeser.

REPUBLICAN NEWS WATCH-- Is State GOP Chair Pat Brady a Democrat mole? - Cathy Santos, Republican political consultant  (DIERSEN: If the past predicts the future, neither Pat Brady nor any of his supporters will publish any kind of response to this.)http://republicannewswatch.com/wp/?p=10406
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Earlier today, State GOP Chairman Pat Brady indicated that former Governor Rod Blagojevich should remain a focus for Republicans in 2014.  Brady told WBEZ radio, “Hopefully, when we put our candidate up to run for governor, we can remind them that Pat Quinn served as his lieutenant governor and, more importantly, the policies that Pat Quinn has pursued in his first year in office.”  The WBEZ story also has Brady noting that the same people who initially supported Blagojevich for governor are still in power, “so it’s still a political issue.”  Really? That’s the plan? Seriously? News flash Pat: we had an election a few months ago against a guy who was elected as Blagojevich’s running mate, not once, but twice. And while another trial is starting for Blagojevich this week, he’s already a convicted felon. He was convicted on August 17th last year on one count of making false statements to the FBI – a very serious charge all by itself. The point is – that conviction happened well in advance of the November election. All were on notice. Oh yeah, and Pat Quinn also ran on a promise of raising taxes. Guess what, he still won. So in other words, Pat Brady’s big “strategy” is to repeat in 2014 what didn’t work in 2010. Isn’t that the definition of insanity?  In fact Pat Brady had the State GOP doing little last year beyond trying to tie Quinn to Blagojevich. What should have been a sideline issue became something of an obsession for the Brady Bunch. There was not only an entire website devoted to Blagojevich called “The Blago Files” – Pat Brady even rolled out an anti-Blago clothing line. Voters on the other hand were looking for something beyond gimmicks and cheap t-shirts. They wanted solutions and leadership. Quinn of course is about as weak as it gets when it comes to solutions and leadership. His winning therefore highlights just how ineffective the Brady Bunch’s anti-Blagojevich strategy really was.Pat Brady is laying out a plan for three years in the future – the same plan that just failed miserably even in the most pro-GOP environment in decades. Brady might also want to think twice about going down the “same people who supported Blagojevich are still in power” road. Some members of the State Central Committee that Brady chairs donated money to Blagojevich’s campaign (see here and here). And one member even served on Blagojevich’s transition team! We also can’t forget there is only one former Illinois governor currently sitting in a federal prison right now – and the committee Brady chairs is filled with holdover George Ryan “supporters.”  Included are: Ryan’s former Campaign Finance Director, Ryan’s former Deputy Chief of Staff, one of the founding donors to Ryan’s legal defense fund, at least one Ryan/Blagojevich board appointee, and last but not least, someone who was included in the United States Government’s proffer in George Ryan’s criminal corruption case. Of course Pat Brady won’t say a peep about any of the Rod Blagojevich or George Ryan connected individuals on his own committee. They’ve giving him something – a big party title. And they let him keep it no matter how lousy of a job he does. Can Pat Brady really be this inept? Or could it be he’s a Democrat mole sent to burrow in to our GOP home? One has to wonder sometimes. Mike Madigan and his fellow Democrats couldn’t hope for a more perfect political adversary if they made the choice themselves. Just the suggestion that Pat Brady could still be State GOP Chairman in 2014 should be depressing to all Republicans. But for Illinois Democrats, “It’s bleepin’ golden.”)

WBEZ-- Pat Brady says Blagojevich still a political issue - Tony Arnold  (DIERSEN: Brady says that "the same people who initially supported Blagojevich for governor are still in power, so it's still a political issue."  But wait, many people who continue to support George Ryan continue to dominate the Illinois Republican Party.) http://www.wbez.org/story/illinois-top-republican-says-blagojevich-still-political-issue-85482
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The head of the Republican Party in Illinois says Rod Blagojevich could still be a political issue in the next statewide elections in 2014. Jury selection is underway in the former governor's corruption trial. Pat Brady runs the Illinois Republican Party. He said the same people who initially supported Blagojevich for governor are still in power, so it's still a political issue. "Hopefully, when we put our candidate up to run for governor, we can remind them that Pat Quinn served as his lieutenant governor and, more importantly, the policies that Pat Quinn has pursued in his first year in office," Brady said. Quinn became governor after Blagojevich was impeached in 2009. Quinn was elected to that office this past fall.)

DAILY HERALD-- Roskam pops in to the Daily Herald - Kerry Lesterhttp://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/5523
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Kerry Lester reports on the Cook County GOP Lincoln Day Dinnerhttp://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/5519
(FROM THE REPORT: So, you read the Q and A , but wanted to make sure to share some behind the scenes scoop from the Cook GOP's Lincoln Day Dinner with RNC Chair Reince Priebus last night. Priebus, just before heading into the dinner at the Schaumburg Marriott, stopped at a grand piano to rattle off a few tunes. Almost made me wish I'd taken those 10 years of piano lessons a little more seriously. Among those in attendance was 10th District Congressman Robert Dold, of Kenilworth. Dold, who owns a pest control business, Rose Pest Solutions, is known for his "insect ties". When his picture is run with stories on our website, commenters occasionally ask "where's the insect tie, man?" So, I looked closely when I ran into him during the cocktail reception. Last night's was a periwinkle blue number with tiny butterflies. Dold tells me he's got a bunch of such ties - the insects vary - but they're always subtle. Also on hand were Republican committeewoman Ruth O'Connell and husband Frank, of Arlington Heights, candidate for lieutenant governor, Jason Plummer, who was up from downstate Edwardsville on business for his family's lumber company, 8th District Congressman Joe Walsh and Wife Helene, and suburban Reps. Tom Morrison of Palatine and Sid Mathias, of Buffalo Grove, and Sen. Matt Murphy, of Palatine, among many, many others.)

POLITICO-- Birtherism: A conspiracy theory primer - Ben Smith and Byron Tauhttp://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53563.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The original smear against Obama was that he was a crypto-Muslim, floated in 2004 by perennial Illinois political candidate and serial litigant Andy Martin. Other related versions of this theory alleged that Obama was educated in an Indonesian “madrassa” or steeped in Islamist ideology from a young age, and the theories began to spread virally after Obama appeared on the national stage – to the casual observer, from nowhere – with his early 2007 presidential campaign announcement. All through that year, the Obama campaign – with the affirmation of most leaders of both parties – aggressively battled that smear by emphasizing his Christian faith. Obama’s controversial but emphatically Christian pastor emerged as a campaign issue and the belief that he was a Muslim seemed to lose traction. Then, as Obama marched toward the presidency, a new suggestion emerged: That he was not eligible to serve.)

Conyers is incarcerated in a federal prison in West Virginia after having pleaded guilty in March 2010 to accepting at least $6,000 in bribes while she was serving on the Detroit City Council. The bribes were connected to a deal to bring a $1.2-billion sludge disposal plant to Detroit.  Conyers has since attempted to retract the guilty plea.)

(FROM THEARTICLE: On Tuesday, The Huffington Post published a story documenting a disturbing post-recession trend: for many unemployed workers, finding a new job can mean a significant step down the professional ladder. For those lucky enough to find new work -- any work -- their old careers and lives often remain out of reach.  More than 8.84 million private sector jobs were lost during the downturn. Despite steady job creation this year, there are still more than four unemployed workers for every job opening. The job recovery has also been cruelly uneven. A full 40 percent of the jobs lost during the downturn came from high-wage industries -- yet high-wage industries accounted for only 14 percent of the new positions created in the first year of the recovery, according to a report released in February by the National Employment Law Project. We asked HuffPost readers to answer basic questions: have you had to take a lower-paying job because of the financial crisis? Have you had to switch industries, accept a big change in quality of life, relocate or cut back? The response was overwhelming. More than a year into the recovery, our readers' responses offer a sharp counterweight to newspaper headlines proclaiming the labor market recovery is "gaining traction.")

(DIERSEN: Sadly, far too many employers do not want to hire people who believe that dependency on government should be discouraged, that socialism should be discouraged, that abortion should be discouraged, that homosexual activity should be discouraged, that illegal immigration should be discouraged, that race and gender based preference giving should be discouraged, that Shariah Law should be discouraged, that gambling should be discouraged, that the First and Second Amendments should not be further eroded, that America should continue as the leader of the free world, etc.  Another words, sadly, far too many employers in America today do not want to hire conservatives.  The only demographic that I have that Democrats view favorably is my union membership.  I doubt that IRS would have offered me a job if I had not been a member of the union while I worked at the Post Office. I doubt that GAO would have offered me a job if I had not been a member of the union while I worked at the Post Office and while I worked at IRS.)

SACRAMENTO BEE-- California's criminal alien population riseshttp://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2011/04/californias-criminal-alien-pop.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The number of criminal aliens incarcerated in California rose to 102,795 in 2009, a 17 percent increase since 2003, federal auditors reported Thursday. This isn't cheap. Nationwide, the Government Accountability Office reports, it costs well over $1.1 billion a year for states to imprison criminal aliens -- those who committed a crime after entering the United States illegally. California, moreover, is more expensive than other states. GAO auditors estimated California spends $34,000 to incarcerate a criminal alien for one year; in Texas, it's only $12,000. The audit, requested by Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, will provide ammunition for states' perennial effort to secure more federal reimbursement dollars. More than one in four of the illegal immigrants imprisoned in California are behind bars for drug offenses. Many are also repeat offenders. GAO auditors say that, based on a survey, criminal alien inmates have been arrested an average of seven different times.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: U.S. government auditors say about 55,000 immigrants were in federal prison last year.  The Government Accountability Office says that was about a 7 per cent increase from 51,000 in 2005. Federal officials reimbursed local and state governments for jailing about 296,000 immigrants on civil violations and for crimes in 2009, compared to 220,000 in 2003. The GAO estimates the federal government has spent about $1.5 billion to $1.6 billion from 2005 to 2009 to incarcerate immigrants in federal and local facilities. The GAO says the number of immigrants arrested and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement had risen 70 per cent since 2009. Immigration, drugs and traffic violations account for half of the arrest offences.)
